Presentation

The Feldenkrais Method, created by Dr Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984) and influenced by his expertise in physics, mechanical engineering and judo, blends together the art and science of human movement.   Awareness through Movement lessons are a novel way of revealing the habits and patterns in everyday movements. It is the lack of awareness of these patterns, which can limit potential as well as contribute to problems of both mental and physical health.   The lessons range from the simple to the complex with the emphasis on awareness, and not on achievement. The sound mechanical and neurological principles behind the lessons are made easily accessible.   Many of the Awareness through Movement lessons are based on the organic learning of babies, where efficiency and not muscle strength makes learning new skills possible.   The Feldenkrais Method has a broad range of applications, from improving the skills of professionals (in fields such as dance, music, theatre and sports) to facilitating recovery from injuries, operations, or trauma.
This lecture will be a combination of both presentation and demonstration.
